Dog Training

Classes at the Humane Society are taught using only positive reinforcement, reward-based training. Classes are kept small and fun for everyone. All classes and workshops are open to the general public.

Registration is required. Class space will be reserved only upon receipt of payment. A copy of your dog's vaccination history must be submitted by the first class.

All classes are six consecutive weeks at the same day and time, unless otherwise indicated.
All classes are $120, unless otherwise indicated.
All classes are held in the Humane Society's second-floor training room. For location and directions, click here.

Meet the Trainers




Chris Danker, CPDT-KA KPA-CTP, has over four decades' experience showing and handling her own dogs, as well as dogs for clients.

Participating in many venues, Chris has handled dogs to multiple National and Regional Specialty wins, and over 70 titles in obedience, agility and conformation. She is active in pet therapy with her own dogs.

Chris is a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Therapy Dog International (TDI) evaluator.

Upcoming Classes


Self Control and Focus Workshop

Does your dog forget his manners when he sees people and other dogs? Is there chaos in your house when the doorbell rings? Does your dog rush to get out the door? Grab anything and everything that falls on the floor? Join us for a two-hour workshop. Learn about the basic skills for getting your dog to work with you, rather than taking it upon himself to act. Start your dog on the road to better manners.

Trainer: Chris Danker
Date: Sunday 4/14/2013, 2-4pm
This is a one-time, two-hour workshop. Fee with a dog is $40, auditors $20.


Family Manners

Trainer: Glenn Pierce
Start Date: Saturday 4/13/13, 10:30am or 1:30pm
The first class is for people only; you will not bring your dog to the first class. Fee is $120.


Canine Good Citizenship (CGC) Class

Trainer: Glenn Pierce
Start Dates: Saturday 3/30/13 at 12pm, Saturday 4/13/13 at 3pm
Fee is $120.


Recall Class

Does your dog sometimes act like he never heard you call? Does he move away from you when called? Would he rather play with his toys or sniff the ground? In this five-week class, learn the steps to developing a reliable recall. Based on Leslie Nelson's Really Reliable Recall, this class will focus solely on teaching you to teach your dog to come when called. Pre-requisite is Family Manners I or equivalent. Start Date: Wednesday 5/1/13, 6pm
Fee is $100. This class will be five weeks. No class will be held on 5/15. Class will be outside on 6/5.


Scent Class Level II

Dogs must have completed the previous four-week Scent class or an equivalent class elsewhere. Working teams are limited to four dogs. Auditors are welcome.

Start Date: Wednesday 3/27/2013, 6pm
This is a four-week class for $75. Auditor fee is $30.


Agility Foundations

Learn foundation skills that will strengthen the bond between you and your dogs. Whether you are interested in agility or just want to have fun with your dog, this is a class you will not want to miss. Class will be held outdoors in our fenced training area. Dogs must have completed six-week Family Manners I or an equivalent class. Working teams are limited to five dogs. Auditors are welcome.
